Alternative to snorkle?

The actual height of the conventional snorkle is beneficial in terms of colder air intake and dust ingestion whilst in convoy...to put that intake in the RR vent would only be as beneficial as adding 3 inch flexible pipe to the existing air cleaner and venting it to the face of the grille.
When I had my RR I made the mistake of putting a pod filter on it, looked wankey but all it did was suck hot air from the engine bay.
Snorkle manufacture for Rangies is easy.. 3" mandrel bent S/steel pipe, some Flexible wire re-in forced Rubber hose , and Head unit.
remember when cutting you guard it has to be an oval shaped hole not a 3" round one;)

I know that you want a snorkel, but IMHO you do not need one if you have a carby car with the oval filter, and short snout. If you have a long snout , cut it off and fab a join so you can make it short. If you have those ridiculous pancake things , chuck em and get an old oval filter.
I once drove through over a meter of water in my 77 ( at Yalwal), with just duct tape all around the bonnet and a radiator blind.Oh and remember to duct tape the cabin air intake.( A bloke lost his CD)
The car started to float at the rear because of a half empty LR tank, and water spurted up through the hand brake boot and gear stick boot.
So it was bluddy deep, but the engine kept going. I dunno where the air came from but it did.
2 EFI cars stopped with a gutful. One of the reasons I put a snorkel on my 92RRC EFI is that a friend once hydrauliced an engine going through a big puddle on an outback road at 80Kmh.
BUt the old carby ones are fine. Poms did know about water, before EFis that is.

In Western Qld. with the windows open, necessary most of the year, there is probably as much dust inside as outside in other parts of this country. I did ask him about the intake noise and he said you can't hear it over normal LR noise.
