    V8 Disco and PULP

G'day Everyone, i'm back with another question. Do i really need to run my Disco on PULP? Does anyone here run theirs on regular ULP? I'm Happy to do it if i have to, but i would be even happier running it at nearly 10c a litre cheaper

    Thanks
    Shane

mines on gas, I run PULP in the 30lt auxiliary because:

1: it costs a whole $3 more to fill

2: with so little fuel in reserve, I want all the range I can get out of that volume

3: they tell me it is better quality and keeps injectors clean. They get very little use, so when the are used, I'd like the most goo relieving fuel to run through them I can get

run mine of ULP. I'd say every 4-5th tank is PULP.

I use the ethnanol mix, cheaper and I don't see any difference.
The fuel guage still drops quicker than a can of beer on a hot day

If you have a 3.9 Disco series 1 it will have an 8.13:1 compression ratio.
You are wasting your money on PULP as it is tuned to run down to 87 octane AFAIR.
It also does not have knock sensors or O2 sensors which can take advantage of PULP.
Use ULP and put some injector cleaner through every now and then.
If you were told by the PO to use PULP, its probably because it pings because it is carboned up.In that case give it an Italian Tune Up.

    Here we go again.
Italian tune Up = take it out on the highway and drive it HARD.
If possible find some big hills that need full throttle for quite a while, or add a loaded trailer .
    BURN THE CARBON CRAP OUT.
I once had to flog a V6 Capri which had had no thermostat for a while for 3 hours before it stopped smoking.
Funny I was talking ot a qualified Land Rover Technician just a week ago who said to me that no Disco V8 owners drive their cars hard enough. He told me that he gave most clients cars an Italian tune Up whenever they came in for service.
One of the most expensive engine problems can happen to babied V8s, the dreaded carbon fouled sticking exhaust valve.

Best way to get rid of carbon build up? fit some forced industion, should see it blow out the exhaust on first hard run up

Not that its practical in this situation

One of the most expensive engine problems can happen to babied V8s, the dreaded carbon fouled sticking exhaust valve....

My bike cacked it self from carbon build up.

EFI thermistor went a bit dicky.

I gunned it one day to get onto the freeway in front of a truck and she coughed and spat, by the time I pulled up it was running on 3.

Got it home, no compression in no 3. Valve clearance was still good. pulled the head off to find an exhaust valve burnt.

the rest of the exhaust valves had little compression marks in the faces where the deposits had been squished between them and the seats

BMW wanted $285 for an exhaust valve

Got one in Aus for almost half that
