Stabilizer/antifungal is a must!!!!
Expecting the price to go thru the roof???
Andrew
G'day all, just a question: I'm thinking of putting about 1200litres of dino diesel down in 6 drums, for later use. Having never stored diesel for a longish period, I have no idea how long it would last in clean drums (used once for engine oil). I'm also thinking of adding a stablizer of some sort, any recommendations?.

No, not really, I just like the idea of having a bit on standby, we get cyclones and floods, and I now have somewhere to store the drums.......and I have been offered a discounted rate for quantity.
As I understand it, diesel only lasts about a year or two. Stabilisers will help and you definitely need to protect against diesel bug and water (e.g. condensation).

And just check with you insurance and council req's for that amount of storage, there may be some issues
Depends on the climate (humidity and temperature mostly) how long it lasts, but I have stored diesel for several years without problems, but in that climate I would expect that fungal growth is a problem (very low humidity here most of the time). A stabiliser should stop this, but also make sure there is no spare space in the drums and that they are airtight. Also in that climate make sure that the drums cannot rust from the outside - oil drums are not very thick, and the last thing you want is for it to start leaking. Keep the outside dry, repaint if necessary and store up off the floor.
