    Black Box on 93 Disco

    Hi everyone I've just joined this my first post.
    I am currently resurrecting a '93 Disco with a blown motor, I rescued the disco from a wreckers and currently starting to put another 3.5 V8 in this weekend. I need some advice re a black box behind the dash, I think it is some type of immobiliser, wires go to it from the key switch there's a led on top of the key switch surround and a press button underneath. I can't see any brand name on it and it looks like it has been wired in at the factory though led and press button looks aftermarket, it has a thin red wire hanging out of it which I think is a ariel. Haven't found the mounting bolts as yet, it just sort of sits in there.
    Question is, could it be factory installed if so how does it operate, how can I program it?
    I don't think I will be able to start it until I nut it out.

    Sounds like an immobiliser/burgular alarm - especially if it has a wire areial - for a 93 disco this is not standard equipment.

    If it is an immobiliser you will need to work out what it is immobilizing - ie just ignition, or fuel or what and take the wiring back to original.

    Could it be the central locking? I have a little box like that under my center console. It only seems to control the central locking.

    I wonder if it's the inertia switch. Can't say I've seen one with an LED though.
