    hi Fade,
I have almost identical probs as you. Rough idle, missing, long crank when starting, really fuelly.
Spark plug no. 8 very black sooty carbon, others light tan (as should be).

After all that - How did you end up working out that it was the Fuel Pump ???

My mother got sick of seeing it in the carport so she organised it to be towed to the nearest rover centre (despite me not wanting to give up on myself ), so they diagnosed it for me and tuned it which im very glad for. But if you can get your hands on a fuel pressure gauge it would be handy for testing it. I had one lined up from a friend, but got beaten.

I found this thread while looking for some answers on very bad fuel economy on my friends 92 disco.
it drives well and pulls the trailer ok but uses a lot of fuel.
a few weeks ago he had a few problems and changed the fuel pump and spark plugs and the car was running a lot better. he used to get about 500-550 kms from a tank of fuel but now barely gets 350=400 kms per tank
it would seem that the engine needs a tune up,
would adjusting the maf be helpful?
or maybe something else as a tune up?

I have a Tdi and not much experience on the v8's

    Thanks

    Anthony
