I could presume that the steel dowels were introduced to the later
models because of an increase in torque & power..!

***Not often & no trends, theres normally underlying factors that
contribute to head failure, overheating being a major one of them.
Also this in relation to retrofitting steel dowels. This can not and should not be done for every TD5.
