**200TDi - Engine Temp**
Hi All
Just a quick one. I have noticed in the last 6 months that the Defender is running at little hotter on the highway. Used to be at around 60-65. Now gets closer to 80deg at times. But runs gnerally at around 70-75deg.
(I have a VDO temp gauge.) It is accurate and is taking temp from the thermostate. Any thoughts? Radiator? Leak in a hose (small one!).
Towing it also heats up.....
It has only done 222,000kms and is a 94 model.
Cheers,
Mike

are you sure your temp gauge is accurate....all those temps sound a little low, 60-65 sounds way too low, my 300tdi runs between 88 and 92
my vdo was showing the engine was running between 98 and 102 when i purchased it, the previous owner had the radiator done but was advise the temp gauge was out of wack by appprox 10 degrees...i have since installed a mechanical temp gauge and he was right it came down by 10 degrees
maybe a 200tdi runs much cooler than a 300tdi

Remove your radiator and get it rodded. My Disco 200TDI had similar symtoms , turned out the radiator cores were 80% blocked. Should only cost you in the region of $80 if you remove and install the rad yourself.

The easiest (& cheapest) solution is to replace your thermostat. Then see what happens to the temp (if anything).

Thanks fellas. I will get onto the rad on long weekend (after an easy trip away).
The guage is new? I might get an auto elec mate to look at it an see that it is accurate.....
