I have started to make attempts to to flush the harness by using 16mm ID plastic tubing filled with metho and pushed over the injection harness connector.
I'll post again tomorrow on the result. I probably need to use air pressure to asssist it through though something may happen overnight.
I hope it all go's well GRAZ..best it happened here then in some remote location....
I cracked open the ECU this afternoon and found that no oil had found its way in.
I'm now not entirely sure if I am onto the problem causing the stopages though there was oil contamination at the ECU plug.
I seem to be getting extremely little metho through the harness, even with at least 25 PSI behind it. Should I expect this.
I realise the fender harness is much longer than the Disco though as metho is much lower viscosity than oil I would thought that there should be more flow. ( the oil made it down to the ECU )
Am I doing anything wrong here?
Thanks
Graz,
Yep it takes ages to seep through. Once the metho starts getting through in minute amounts and appears to be clear of oil stop flushing. Allow a bit of time for most of the etho to drain or dry. Most of it will dry anyway.
The oil does not actually get into the ECU box, just the connector. This causes a minor electric circuit upset as oil is conductive, causing loss of power. It does not take much oil to be present to cause this.
At a guess I would say it should be just about right to go.
Another thing I did was disconnect and reconnect the battery to reset everything.
Remember the oil has made it down the ecu possiblly over years and also while there is electrical activity in the harness and heat causing the capilliary action.
Cheers
Craig
Guys,
I've had the oil in loom too. I have sealed and replaced the injector harness with a new and modified one and then modified a funnel to fit neatly over the plug in the loom to the ecu and filled it with metho. I left this in place overnight but nothing went though the loom as the funnel was just as full the next morning - have i missed something ? or does the funnel need to be sealed behind the plug to allow the metho to work its way into the loom from below the plug ?
Thanks
Paul
I put everything back together and now it wont crank. The electric fuel pump doesn't operate and the annunciator panel doesn't light up.
Other electrics that have failed are:
Everything else seems to work.
- Headlights high and low ( Hi beam flash works though)
- Turn indicators ( though hazards work including in the annuciator)
- Nil aircon or heater fan.
- Nil wiper or wash
- Nil instruments.
I am pulling the last of my remaining hair out.
Any ideas please.
