how much weaker is the front end going to be if i chuck an ARB locker in the front rather than a maxidrive unit? obviously both lockers are strong but it would be the difference between keeping the old weaker cv with the ARB or having to swap it out and have an upgraded cv with the maxi.... axles would be changed to maxi's whichever way i go. the big difference is price 1200 an end plus compressor and easier fitting with the ARB or 2200 an end plus more complex fitting with the maxi's.
this will be going into a 1993 D1. CWP will be being changed with both to 4.11:1's

pull a rear axle and see if it is the 12 or 24 spline jobby. if it's 12 spline get 24 spline complete housings axles etc as the 12 spline is way to weak to handle the stress lockers put on them.
Otherwise no matter which way you go you will be very happy you did it. I have had ARB lockers for about six years and have not had a problem with them at all this is doing faily hard core normal driving if you have an urge to compete or hammer go the maxi's

The centre strength won't be any different between the two. I would go for what ever you can get at the right price. I've had no issues with my ARB's other than the lines, which has been my own fault. I do however carry a line joiner, a few olives and a press valve.
Make sure you have 24spline axles at the diff then run the 23 Spline RR CV's with the 10 spline (separate) outer stub.
Carry a spare CV and 6pack of stubs to keep you going.
Upgrading to 110 CV's is not worth while IMO, it is HEAPS easier to change a stub than a whole CV.

Get hold of Smithy in Melbourne, he sells the Rovatrax front CV's Axels and rear Axels at very good price and very impressive stats, Then run any locker you want. I run Detroit lockers and currently fitting this set up with 4.11's in my D1. PM me for more info if you wish.

The strong axles and CV's are great, but they transfer the load to the next weakest part - the diff centre.
I know what I'd prefer to be replacing - A stub axle, then maybe a CV.
You can buy CV's & stubs cheap. They are easy to replace once you know how. Changing them on a track is a pain in the butt, but easier than an centre.
Each to their own....The Cromo stuff is cool though
If I where you, I'd do the Toy conversion. You seem like you want to invest the money, and it will be similar dollars with stronger centres and the same ratio's. The downs side being it is not a bolt in option, it does require some fabrication.
How's that for throwing another spanner in the works?
