EGT guage mounting

Correction on my last post.I ran the cable from the sensor through a new grommet in the firewall,used the existing larger grommet for the Engine Watchdog alarm cable....similar box to the Thermoguard, complements it on the other side of the dash[a bit more filing would have seen it flush].Also fitted a low coolant alarm using Rangie coolant cap[PRC7925]and one of Tim's interface modules.Should have fitted them all at the same time and used one hole in the bulkhead to run the cables through.
Thanks Disco Owner re the comments on temperatures.I will certainly do a run up the hills before tweaking the pump....will redline the temperature at 650?

well to rephase my question.....I understand the theory but how many forumites have actually experienced some engine damage from egts being too high...or how many of you have seen this kind of damage? What is damaged first and what engine symptoms might you expect if you overdid it up a long hill towing on a hot day??

Are we talking general overheating symptoms/head gaskets...or something else..like ,melted valves or something??

nice install Eddy ,it really does look factory , so I take it the other gauge is to do with your alalrm , ah you already said ..

I'm yet to work out how to wire the +12 v and gnd for my EGT gauge to the ignition to power the unit so it isn't always on and only switches on with th ignition on , I have't really followed the instruction and that is somthing I probably need to do. shoudl be easy or straight forward.

I'll be interested to know how you went...you can either PM me or post it in here...

The vertical spade terminal between the under dash fuse box and the door pillar is only live when ign is on.The ground was spliced into a wire[white?]that went to a bolt near the steering column.The Engine Watchdog is a temperature alarm,I have mine on the thermostat housing bolt,but guess it could also be used for transmission temp.They are available from www.sig.itel.net
Edddo, the problem with EGT higher than 720 degrees is I believe,melted pistons.Not good.....maybe ceramic coating could provide some protection?

Two Beers...tooheys new i hope..

Exhaust Gas Temperature Gauge ( Pyrometer ) , This device measures how hot your exhaust Temperature is straight out of the exhaust manifold so you don't end up melting your engine / turbo fan Blades pistons / wastegate etc.. when your engine is under full load for prolonged period of time, do a search on this forum , you'll find heaps of threads on the subject of EGT and Pyrometers...
