    Defender 110 33" Tyres

    G'day all,

Looks like I may need some new tyres in the not-too-distant future.

I've done some research and am partial to the BFG MT T/A LT255/85R16

I'd like 33" tyres and my personal preference is for narrower tyres, hence the choice.

My question is has anyone fitted these to a Defender and was any modification / cutting necessary? What are they like with turning etc.? Does the spare still fit on the back door?

The rims I have ready for them have an addition 8mm offset so I am hoping that will stop or minimize any rubbing but am still interested in other peoples experiences...

They are a popular size choice for defenders as they fit with no rubbing issues on a standard vehicle. Maxxis also make a tyre in this size, and cooper did do one (but I don't think do anymore)

apparently they are the correct size for the fenders.......

fenders come from the factory with tyres smaller than they should have......
and the speedo reads higher than it should......if you check this out on the highway next time you see the markers
you will actually see how far out it really is......

i think its about 50metres for every km........

fitting 255 86 R16 tyres should correct this.......

I fitted 285/75/16s with no mods required although I did experience some rubbing on the spring mount on one rear side when cornering(no two landys the same).Never needed to touch the bump stops and it corrected the speedo according to my GPS.

285's i've seen on a stock fender as well, they are a little shorter, but wider.

I have 255/85R16 BFG MTs on my '95 110 as a second set. Yes, my speedo agrees with the GPS now as well.

What rims are you running and what offset ?

I tried them on D1 steelies and had rubbing at the back on full articulation.

I had a set of mangels style rims with a different offset (wider track) and now have no clearance issues.

I run them on my D110 - on Disco rims, no problems.

255 / 85 x 16 is the natural choice for a Defender - better gearing, all I need now is to get some ATs in the same size

been running that particular tyre now for years on the 130, am on my second set and almost due for the third, although this time around I'm going Maxxis Big Horn 762 in that size.
Screws up the turning circle, but that's the only downside.
