Funnily enough, farmers used to give diesel to cattle to combat bloat (until it became illegal). Now they use "anti-bloat-oil" made by petroleum refineries!!! (probably just diesel under a different name )

I have an Isuzu MSA-5R gearbox in my rangie. Mated up to an LT230 transferbox. The adaptors themselves are easy, but I still haven't got around to an easily copied shifter setup.

This is the 1st post to hear from others what an Isuzu is capable of.....

So why did i have to push your buttons to get the low down on the Jap crap influance....

Anyhow keep the comments coming and i'll think of other stuff a LR mechanic has told me about the Isuzu engine...

I have had my 85 ISUZU County for about 12 years now.
Had 170,000 on the clock when I bought it. Has just got to 520,000. Only recently (last10k) started making a noise which I'm told is piston ring blow by coming back through the inlet valves. Cause of this is glazed bore created by low idle speed.These engines are designed to be worked hard.
Despite the piston ring problem the old girl just keeps powering along.Great economy on the highway and of course in the bush where eats everything else for low down power.
One day soon I should strip it down and do the rings,bores, and bearings........ One day!
Any suggestions on supply of parts?

I've had 2 Isuzu landies. The motor was about the only thing never to break.

The torque on a n/a motor is great for low reving bush crawling. You can brake at idle without stalling. I can't wait to experience bush/beach driving in a turboed 4bd1.

The motor is loud. I am slowly eliminating or insullating noise. I just blocked up the dump valve drain on the air cleaner. That stopped it a bit. I am now starting to hear tyre noise. I think noise is the only thing against them.

Emissions regulations would have prevented them going into passenger vehicles after 1990 I think.

I would have thought an v8 auto in a county would be a lot better for city driving, if you can afford the fuel bill.

Zenith Eng in Milton Brisbane supply parts. They have a turbo conversion kit, pistons etc.

I know we are debating V8 vs Isuzu but I do miss my Isuzu's low down torque aganist the 300TDI. The Isuzu pulled off the line much better. The 300TDI comes back above 2000 rpm and then leaves the Isuzu.

So is this stirring session a result of the mudpit vanishing?
