same issues i cant park in kogarah as ultrasounds shut down the vehicle
also a plastis welder in erskineville made me come ustuck
intermitant starting ended up being the starter motor at 50000klm
had it replaced and no repeat
also a dodgy key can have the same effect all lights no action
check the red light on the fob
When the solenoid clicks in it also rotates, ensuring that the actual electrical contact isn't on the same point all the time. You may find that if the contact on the solenoid is pitted in one area, when it rotates to that position (read as intermittent) then contact is not made. Two or three more hits of the key will tend to turn the contact point past the faulty contact spot and miraculously, it starts. Happened to me on my disco 2 a while back.

The first check is to see if the fob is actually communicating with the car... Just do a simple lock & unlock. If you can't even do that then you know there's something jamming the signal.
I had the same problem on a servo forecourt on Sunday, turn the key... Nothing. Couldn't even use the fob to lock/unlock. Rolled the car 10m and she jumped into life.

Worst electrics I ever experienced were in Fords and Holdens.
Interestingly all starter failures were Bosch...Coils packs - Bosch
Never had a single issue with ANY Rover product, nor have friends with Jags (2) or any of the guys I know with the Pommie made fords.
