I use both K&N for on road use, get better fuel and power. Paper for off road use only takes 1min to change them.:D Best of both worlds.

Dont use K&N for dirt work at all, they will just clog up in 2 seconds and actually give you worse performance. Stick to stock paper filters.
Forgot to add my other option. I use a Donaldson on the Isuzu, but I use a K&N snorkle sock very very lightly oiled when I am following in a convoy etc on a dirt road. get off the dirt and take off the sock. Wash and lighly oil & back under the seat for next time. Keeps the dust out of the main filter.
Just my 2c worth.

Was warned to avoid K&N use because the MAF sensor uses a thin wire to sense air temp. Some vehicles have a "burn off" cyle where the wire is heated to clean it. Fine oil off the filter can contaminate the wire, especially if one applies it over-enthusiastically to the filter element.
Like I said "I was warned" - doesn't mean "it's true"! But it did make sense.

Yep it's true get about extra 100km out of tank.
amazing. No difference on the Defender when I backed to backed them.
Hang on, Disco uses a panel filter, doesn't it ?
The paper one possibly has too great a pressure drop due to lack of face area. The Defender one is a cylinder.
ah ha ! this pic by isuzurover when he was doing the filter tests probably explains where a difference in performance may come from. ;)
