    urgent help req.

Hi All, first time on, I have a disco series 2 that developed a problem today - I need it for work tomorrow.
It loses pwer and cuts out avery 1-2kms, after a while it starts up fine, and the same thing happens again, and again. I think may be a fuel pump or a fuel filter(where is it?)
can anyone help with some info

    Where are you located?

If your disco has done more than 100,000k then suspect the fuel pump. Next time it stops, hop out and listen to the fuel tank when the key is turned on. No noise equals no pump. Also, the fuel filter is located in the RH rear wheel arch behind the wheel. Undo it and check for obvious filth and sludge etc. When refitting it, you will need to prime the system. This involves turning the key on and letting the pump run(Assuming it IS working) until it times out. Usually about 20seconds. Then repeat this 4 or 5 times. It should then start OK. While cranking it sometimes helps to put the foot down on the accelerator.

    Urgent help required

Thanks Justin, pump is working, but I wasn't sure if it was an intermittent fault (does this happen) I got under the car last night, I still can't see the filter, what is it shaped like ? I forgot to say earlier, it's a 2002 petrol V8.
    thanks again

It is a metal container, near the driverside back wheel.

I would lean towards a crankshaft sensor fault.
The only quick way to diagnose is to take it to someone with a Rovacom or a dealer.
The Bosch Motronic has quite powerful diagnostics and if it is a sensor or electrical fault, it will throw a code.

Hi all, thanks for the help so far, I still can't find the fuel filter, it is definitely not where the photo of it that Ron sent, I've followed the fuel line from the tank to the back of motor - nothing. there is a black square cannister on the return line, under the drivers seat, bolted to the chassis rail (what is this ?)
how can i tell if it's a camshaft sensor - is there a shortcut without using the computer. I live in the middle of nowhere, 130kms from the nearest land rover specialist

    Richard is it a V8 or Td5?

Td5 filter is a screw on canister behind back driver's side wheel about 6" long and 3" in diameter, can't miss it.

V8, my understanding is that the filter is part of the sender unit that's in the tank.

Mate hang on until you can get an answer from a V8 Disco II owner.

I found out in Google that the filter is in a stupid place, but not where it is

    From: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread...t=Disco+filter

It appears the fuel filter is inside the fuel pump which is inside the fuel tank.
