fan belt squeak
New fan belt is noisy and is starting to annoy me. The old belt made no noise but was worn I have since put two new belts on only for them to start squeaking after a few weeks on. The adjuster is only twelve months old and appears to look ok I have tried cleaning all the pulleys only to find that after acouple of days the noise comes back. Soap stops noise until it wears of and the same happens with talc. I have replaced the bearing on the wheel of the adjuster in hope but as b4 the noise came back again after a few days. noise does seem to go away after 20 mins of driving but will reappear after standing still for a short time. Any suggestions please as it is starting to annoy me.

I coat my belts and pulleys with "Permatex non-hardening gasket cement".
Lots of belt grip, even if a little loose.
Make sure all pulleys are in line properly, and that belts are tight enough.
That's about all any one can do really.

Try another brand maybe. Had mine changed last service and it was squealing it's head off afterwards.
Turned out the flat side had less grip than it should have had. Changed to another brand and problem went away.

I found the front crank seal to be leaking on my Discovery 2a TD5 onto the serp belt. If you parked it with the front facing the sun it would squeal as you drove away becuse the oil got slipperier.
New seal, no squeal.

mine use to make heaps of noise on start up, especially noisy when the weather or engine was warm. i rubbed a small amount of kids crayon on both sides of the belt about 3 months ago. took a couple of days to stop the noise but i haven't heard it since.

Buy a stick of "Dry-Lube" from Dirty Cheap Auto for a couple of bucks.

thanks for the suggestions. Kids crayon seems to have done the trick.

Yep, what Snapper said. I use a Dri-lube stick on mine and it does the trick. For some reason wet weather brings on the squeak.
