    P38 EAS Fault

    Gday all,
I am looking for possible causes of my EAS fault in my 97 RR 4.0 .

I had just come back from a mates place out the back of Yass (30min of dirt road + potholes)and was sitting in trafic and had the EAS fault warning display flash up and the car went to its off road ride hight. The Compressor showed no problems raising to this height. It stayed hear for the rest of the 5min trip home. The warning light has isolated the EAS height control button.

The car has not dropped to the bump stops over the space of 24hrs so its not a fast air leak. However it may (have not looked to closly) have droped height slightly. This would indicate a leak in the lines perhaps? Would this trigger the EAS Fault display? All four bags were replaced 10,000km ago so I will be surprised if one of them has gone.

I am going to have a snoop around later this arvo. Mainly to see ensure the compressor isnt running continuously (bloody certain its not), have a good look at the ride height, look for leaks and getter a better understanding of the system.

Failing that Ill get the pro's to do a system diagnostic. Can anyone recomed places in the ACT that know there RR stuff.

    Cheers All
    Jim

You might want to look at the home made EAS reset tool which uses downloadable software, a simple OBD2-DB9 serial cable and a PC.

I've built it and it works well. See RangeRovers.net :: View topic - Windows EAS Unlock Tool...

Actually, it was Numpty's Missus who wrote to tell me she was lying in bed thinking of me.....

And the fact that I stopped to help a Defender owner this arvo whose 110 wouldn't start. I got him going again. He offered me money but I said, "Mate, we're Land Rover owners". That got me thinking (and that's never a good thing).

Jim, bit of a long shot: I'd suggest you disconnect /re-connect the battery. It's a pain in the proverbial wrt resetting windows /sunroof etc but it might just reset the EAS ECU on this occasion.... Also have a look under the passenger's seat for loose connections etc to the EAS ECU...it's the bottom one of the 2 "black boxes"

I'd also endorse the cheap and simple EAS reset tool which Ron referred to.

Are you able to do any mechanical work yourself? If so the RAVE CD contents are available (free from RR.net). A couple of thousand pages of indexed / searchable Landrover detailed repair and overhaul material in Acrobat pdf format. Irrespective, it's a jolly good read to get to know how the system works

    Good luck

    Jim,

If you still need someone in Canberra to look at your EAS issues..can recommend Ray at Canberra motor works in Mitchell..he has owned Rangies for years..I bought his old 97 4.6 HSE and it's been well looked after..of course good old Rolfe Motors will be able to do it for you..

When I bought my P38A last month , took it to Rolfe motors for a full diag session on the car..they checked the EAS system for me as it was taking a while for it raise..realised compressor was on its way out and everything else checked out fine..it is the original compressor so 10 years is not too bad for these i'm told..

If you need a new compressor ..try Ben the Airbag man , he can get a genuine new EAS compressor for $590 shipped to Canberra.

    Good luck..

    cheers,
    Richard
