    Fuel Economy

Hey Guys i'm new too the Land Rover world with a 97 disco, so far i've done a 2 inch lovells lift and fitted the 33x12.5 R15 Muddies on after i came across some nicely offset rims. The only concern I have though is the fuel consumption even before I did my few little mods, On a tank of unleaded i'm only getting just over 350km, I have always know that they had a bad name for fuel guzzeling (the 3.9L) But I didn't realize they were that bad. any tips on what i can do such as snorkel, K&N air filter....... any knowlege passed on would be much welcome as I used too be a Cruiser boy and the old diesels were easy as.

    Cheers Mark

    Mark,

    That is a good mileage

    Tips?

Put a block of wood under the excellerator
    Keep the weight down.
Lower it to decrease wind drag.

And the best till last.... fit a 6.5 litre Hummer diesel in it

Only kidding, however they do love fuel..

    Cheers,

    Welcome Lugz !

Can't really help anymore than Ron, as I was going to say sell it and get a Tdi or Disco II with a TD5 if you want economy

Can you tell that I drive an oil burner

Pedro the Swift will be along soon to tell you Ron and I are just trouble makers and worship at the dark, oily altar.
I'm sure a few of the blokes here will be better help than we have so far.

    Try these hints

Mate check out my threads for some good advice. I know it sounds strange but check thermostat is not stuck open. My 93 3.5 was running cool under 1/2 on the gauge. Put new thermo in now runs at dead on 1/2 in Townsville with Aircon going. Check maf and stepper motor set as per forums .
I followed the above advice as recieved from other members and the beast cracked over 400ks town driving.

Certainly don't put a K&N in to increase fuel economy. Remember that with such large tyres your mileage will be out. You could be adding 10-15% to that figure of 350km (someone will do the maths) to get the real mileage.

I went down to 200km out of a tank with 35's and beadlocks, then changed my diff centres to 4.11's and got the gearing back to standard, now im back to 300km around town, and when I take my comp tyres off it should get better again. Im interested if any one else running 35's on a 3.9 would have any fuel results ?

    Cheers

Lugz, in all seriousness do a search, there are many threads on here regarding the V8's.
I'm a little surprised the V8 boys haven't seen this thread yet

    Filled mine up today!

    270 km used 59 litres

Hi time I dragged the Jaguar XJ6 out of the shed.
200 on 50 litres of LPG.

    The cost?
    118cpl Disco
    59cpl Jaguar.

The low slung one has it!
Refueled it today and had not driven it for 4 weeks.
Boy do those things fly, and so smooth !!!!!

Mind you, I love the sound of the DV8

    Cheers,

Lugz, the MAF on a Disco is Mega $ to replace, KN filters have been know to damage the MAF with oil contamination.
