Has my Auto pooed itself ???

does it move like it normally would when in low range.......?
or does it feel like its slipping.......

if you were in low range when the damage happened....i would expect the low range gearing to strip......not the highrange........

if it feels like its slipping......then it could be the torque converter......



and....are there any unusual sounds......?

Yeah Its moving, not moving the way it should..reving out for little speed.
I'll give the transfer a seeing to tomorrow.
It took me long enough to clear the layers of mud on top of the transfer and auto
from many a mission just to look over all the linkages.

Yep slipping could be said. It is going nowhere fast.
I would have thought if it was going to stuff up the low would have gone also.

Just wondering, have you smacked in your trany sump , if the oil pick up is hard against the sump it might not be able to suck up enough fluid, just my 2 bob.
Hope you fix it quick.

from what youve just told me......that eliminates the transfer......
the reason it moves in low range......is because what little power is being produced from the box......
is finding it easier to move the rig in low range due to the gearing.......

i would go back to the transmission and start looking there......its either in the box or the torque converter.......

you say it makes no difference which gear you are in.......?
1st....2nd.....D......R.......?

you have a box full of neutrals......?

going from worse to bad.

stripped the primary clutch pack
stuffed the sprag in the stator
folded the vanes of the impellor or the turbine.
clagged relief valve on the pump dropping the internal pressure
TPS waaaayyy out of adjustment/TPS valve not playing the game.

you dont want it to be anything else....

but in any circumstance other than the last 2 your looking at a box pull and ID be thinking full rebuild.

a quicky pressure test on the box will reveal whats what in the case of the last 2.

One of the transfer case mounts is busted..but it is still in position.
The rangie is 3.5v8, 3 speed auto, lt230t transfer case.

Thanks any ideas to diagnose the problem would be great.

Did you remove the tailshaft when being towed to the pub, if not you have probably stuffed the g/box, Regards Frank.

I'd be thinking converter if anything if you are getting minimum drive as if it has got hot or was run dry due to excessive angle then it would be likely that it would pretty much desroy the vanes in the converter.
