    Maintenance of rubber & plastics

D1 with cracking rear window rubber: What is best solution to fill those pesky rubber cracks? Also what is best protectant of all the rubber and plasticky bits hanging on the outside (or inside for that matter) of a D1?

(yes I know armour all is totally contra-inicated, as it accelerates rubber cracking etc...)

I didn't have too many cracks, but what I did have I cleaned the rubber & stuck some black tank/duck tape over them.
I suppose you could trowel some black sealant into them if they are too big.

'Turtle Liquid Chrome' seems to be ok.

    Hope this helps.

I seal my cracks with black windscreen sealant.
Too bad someone didn't come up with an aftermarket seal designed for Aussie conditions. There must be thousands of cracked D1s out there.

I had the rear side window rubber replaced a couple of years ago, only cost $69 at a local panel beater including the rubber.

Has anyone ever seen any definitive proof of this or is it an internet myth?

Armor All deny it in their FAQs

IIRC the traditional "solution" is to replace the rubber.
