The "now it's 6.6 L/100km's" comment is also unnecessarily rude. He is just quoting from the D1 manual which he has obviously looked up since his previous post where he says LR claim low 7's in their documentation.

If he is getting low 7's then good on him and as LR state that in their manual then it definitely is not an "extraordinary" figure and as it is one that LR themselves stand by.
I know about 12 people with 300tdi's in their landies personally and I only know of 1 that has made it into the 8's and then we found out that his speedo was out and when we worked it out he was really getting around the low 9's but again, he carried nothing, ran standard mitchies and had no mods not even a snorkle or bullbar and was a 3 door manual.

Thats great GA if they are getting those sort of number, I just dont believe them and as was said about one of my posts the other day that there is a lot of BS on the forum about this sort of thing.

So Grizzly, what do you get from your Deefa, you getting into the 7s as well?

Mac, you are correct but IMHO, not for the reasons most people think.
Electronics are harder for the average mechanic to work on, because they are not trained or skilled enough. They are mechanics, not Electronics Technicians or Auto Electricians.
It is this that often makes repairs more expensive, the lost and wasted time diagnosing correctly.

Caveat: The above does not imply that mechanics are simpletons, just that they are good at what they know, not what they don't know.

It is true, I am biased, but I choose stuff with electrikery every time. In perspective, electronics as a field of endeavour is only about 30 years old, (think how good cars were 30 yrs after invention). Give it another 30 or 40 and most everything we do will be not only controlled by electronics but be electronic.
I certainly believe that adding a healthy dose of ergs to anything makes it better and more reliable.

    Again,
    Happy new year to all

    Ralph

Just 1 more quick point, with electronics, you need electricity, which means that you are relying on your alternator first of all over everything else, if you lost that and battery voltage then your stuffed for something that simple.

If the same happened to a 300tdi, if manual you roll start it no worries, auto would still need a jump but you wouldnt have to worry about driving from 1 side of the country to the other as long as you had the fuel.

You would have to pop the bonnet to shut it down but thats all

MCROVER, its a public forum. there are always opinions and whether you believe them or not I nor probable no-one else cares!

Let him state his calculations, good for him if he is getting those figures. You don't know the condition of his car, the driving style or what fuel he uses.

no need to reply in such an accusing way towards him inferring he is lying. Reply once, and let it go.

you are tiresome, another day another mcrover argument

I only ever got 7 l/100 km out of my Honda CBR1000F motor bike

    sigh.

i know of a gentleman from bribie island who consistently gets better than 7's fuel economy in his manual 3dr 300tdi disco.

he has one of them motors, smooth as a babies butt and quiet as, compared to both the 300tdi's i have owned.

he had me shaking my head in disbelief when we first started talking about it one day in my shop, took me out and showed me his log book...

i punched the figures into my calculator and low and behold it was 6.9 something. started his truck up and it was sweet as.. no roof racks or anything like that, stock standard in everything i saw and had bridgestone highway tyres on.

does a run to caloundra two or three times a week (100+ klm round trip) to visit family and nudges it along just above the speed limit most of the time he reckons..

worst he ever got was high 11's hauling a car trailer with an old hightop van on it, pretty amazing going but he has everything in black and white in the little red log book of his..
