Chazza's super-U-beaut extension device; No.1, Mk1.
2 1/4 ton jack bought in 1996 for $180; the extension is for chassis lifts and easily lifts my MF 65 tractor with water in the tyres.:D
Had the extension bar made by a man with a big lathe - cost me $30:D

that looks very handy.......but it can also increase the risk of it all falling over if the weight is not in the centre......
and jacking land rovers under their diffs is bad enough as is.......though i am impressed with it.......
i would have like it to be at least the width of the base plate it sits in.....
you have give me a great idea.......and i think i may know someone with a lathe........ :D
Trust me Tony, I wouldn't use it if it was in anyway unstable, or I thought it wasn't strong enough.
However, I take your point and stress that it is purely for lifting and I wouldn't try to drag the load with it in place, even though it probably wouldn't fail. The other point to consider is that when it is used, the jack really doesn't have to be extended much, before whatever I am lifting, is off the ground,

I have a Lifttech and a Supatool jack, left overs from my wrecing yard days, the Lifttech is a real good jack and not real dear at the time, you would want a decent one for anything to do with 4wds and you also want a jack with a good high lift, some truck jacks can be had for right dollar, cheap jacks are ok but how much value do you put on your life if the ram fails
I've currently got a borrowed Armstrong 5000kg floor jack in the garage, 190mm collapsed height ~760mm full height - Its just a bit physically big to be practical. (and its a definite 2 person lift) :twisted:

hey vlad.....to change out springs......lift the car as high as you can under the diff......
and just place the stands under the chassis rails on a flat section......
then you can lower the diff and have the tyres clear off the ground......
just keep an eye on your brake lines.......
keep the diff supported on the jack when you undo the shocks........and lower it slowly just enough for the springs to come out......
