I've seen that website too. However your thoughts concur with a Discowebbers. He reckons they are not much use and that the least painful way to clear a fault is to pull the fuel injection fuse.
Problem with that is that it clears all the faults so you don't know if there is more than one.
That is one more fault than I could read before at least ;)

Well I think I have determined the cause of the problem.
It seems that if I start on petrol then all is well but if I start on LPG then it will have a MAF fault.
This would explain why sometimes (almost always) when I change from LPG to petrol it runs like a dog (harsh revs and low idle) until I shut it down for a few seconds and restart it. It must be in limp mode during that harsh running.
This is only from the last two days but this appears to be the problem.
I can now clear the faults by restarting on petrol without having to pull the ECU fuse.
I think resetting the ECU by the fuse helped initially though as I could not clear the MAF fault by any means before I did that. Starting on petrol etc didn't help before I did that.
Well congratulations that was a good result. The hassle of getting the reader was worth it for you.

Its great to see you guys getting the onboard diagnostics up and running. It make life so much easier! It certainly helps to take away some of the smoke and mirror and voodoo associated with fault finding the 14cux!:D
Hi Philip. I bet you didn't know that these units will let you know your oil leaks have got worse!
Code 45 'Bank B oxygen sensor fault'
The sensor plug was full of oil :D
On another note I have been thinking of connecting the ECU power wire to the car alarm and isolating it when armed like the ignition and fuel pump. This will reset the codes when the alarm is armed. Easier than pulling the fuse when I want to clear the MAF fault which appears when running LPG.
I must admit to having read pretty much all that has been posted on this issue by you guys and after popping the bonnet and thinking bugger it I really should have a look at how hard all of this is!!!!!!!!!!!!
until I have my shed build built so that I can park the old girl up and do the work under cover with concrete under her and lights above her, I had realised that this is all too bloody hard - So I take my hat off to you guys who have done the had yard and actually done it.

It's not that hard Blythe. Really. I took it to an exhaust shop to get the sensors fitted into the exhaust. The rest is just wiring which I did in my driveway. I had a couple of problems with the connections but they were minor and I can't even remember what they were.
So as long as you are good at wiring in cramped quarters (for the Disco) then all will go well.
Hi Guys.
I've been reading this post with some interest as I have just fitted a fault code reader that i got from the USA via fleebay. I've taken it back out as I thought it was kn*ckerred since nothing appearred on it's display. I had the ECU disconnected while I fitted the fault code reader so I assumed i'd get error 03 but i didn't so I assumed I'd been sold a duff code reader.
Can anybody tell me if the code reader will show 03 after cutting the power to the ecu please.

Just disconnect your MAF and start it.
If it is OK it will show the fault code.
