My 300tdi Disco did this same thing a few years ago.
Stopped for fuel, went to start - no go. No click, no dimming of the lights as key was turned - nothing.
Thought about the wire to solenoid terminal, but behind the turbo it was pretty warm. Managed to reach the wire, gave it a couple of wriggles and away she went.
Next morning off with the air inlet pipe and heat deflector, tightened the connection clip and no problem since.
The tacho connection did the same thing at about the same time!

Just pulled my spider out, removed the cct. board and 2 solder joins were burnt out. Won't bother with resoldering them will just bypass the now redundant item, so it can never happen again.
