I had exactly the same issue, and some of the lads were fed up with pulling me out of the muddy stuff with the standard tyres.
I bought a 2nd hand set of 16" rims - they came off a P38 (same fitting as the D2) - not bad condition and reasonable $500 for 4
I then found that the BFG AT 235/70 R16 was just a 1/4" difference in dia from the original 18" tyre/rim combination.
I have no issues with steering stops rubbing or anything.
Initially I was going to use the BFG's as a spare set and just use them for 'playing' as I thought - given the agressive tread pattern I thought they may be 'noisey' on the tarmac.
............but no, they are superb, and my single forray off road down/up a steep rocky/muddy track towing a camper trailer proved their off road ability as well.
I can add some pics if you like.
might be interested in your 18" wheels as a spare set for my caravanwhich i am converting to LR stud pattern. let me know if you want to sell when you find some 16"s
Dear Graeme,
Tks for yr reply. Pls pardon my ignorance. Will the enlarge disc brake n calipers for 18" wheel fit on the 16"...I love the 16" simply becos' there are so many choices of M/T tires available. Cheers!:D
The rotor size is the same for all D2's,,,
so all D2 rims are interchangable.
:D
Just purchased 5 16"*8" black steel rock crawler rims, we put one on my D2 and there is no probs with the size, Micky Thompson (mzt I think there called<60%off rd 40% on) are being fitted right now. Cant wait. V8LANDY put me onto the rims through procomp.
