Squealing belt

There is Different Lenghts in the belts as well, depending on what alternater your running( pulley Size) Deefer or Disco, it can all come into the prob.

I removed the bearing covers and cleaned the dirt and grit out, packed it with grease and put it back for now. Its much quieter but obviously not 100%. Was a pretty easy job.

It's been quite some time since I did this - and memory's not the best - but I probably either used circlip pliers or a small screwdriver. It's a good idea to hold a rag over the clip while removing it to avoid personal injury incase it springs out.

Can someone please give me the bearing no's for the bearings mentioned in post no 7 I need to order the bearings for the idlers on a 300 tdi.

Thanks I'll order them in -another job .The drought and dust etc has been hard on vehicles ! thankfully it's all green now.

You'll probably need some circlips too as the standard ones are hard to get out and you'll probably end up damaging them.
I replaced mine with standard type with holes in the end (originals just have angled ends) to make them easier to change in the future. I found the standard circlips were just a touch thick so had to sand them down slightly so they would go into the grooves properly.

Been good reading all the replies to the similar problem that l am having right now.

Been a while since I did this as well but by filing a slot it's possible to get the circlips in/out and replace the bearings without damage.

Filed slot is at the 7 o'clock position

Mind you belt still squeals like a banshee from time to time, but everything is chockers with dust etc at the moment.
