That is exactly what mine did when I first bought it.

    Q. Problem?
    A. Faulty advance retard unit.

    Kingyrules,

Take the plastic pipe off the advance retard unit and suck on it. If you get no resistance, there is your first problem

    Cheers
Thanks for all the great ideas one small problem when i pop the lid all see is a birds nest of wires and hoses! were would i find this retard unit? the idea of a bigger exaust and intake is a great idea anyway (make it sound better). The other thing i have found, i took the beast for a run up to ballarat, all was going well till the pentland hills, the old girl struggled up at a depressing 70kph is this normal to die in the bum on big hills or just another symptom?

    nope shes crook...

unloaded (call it 3 passangers) the v8 discos should zip up hills at 100+ providing your willing to give it plenty of right boot.

do the airfilter, the fuel filter and get someone to check an injector for its pattern clean them if needed and then diagnostics proper can begin.

but without hearing it and having a play from what your saying its possabley running a touch rich and firing too late. Not big dollars to fix and If your going the way of a new intake and exhaust then it'd be wise to spend the $$ getting the injectors looked at and having it tuned properly after the new pipework goes in.

    Hi Kingy
A 520 hp kenworth would be running a 18 speed transmission you dont use very gear in it, we skip gears according the the conditions , Traffic, load etc I drive all manual vehicles today regardless of their size or make and it teaches to to come back on the throttle useing less pressure if the engine laboures back of a little or go back a gear, it works I Taught my niece to drive her Datson this way and she recones she has gained about 10% less fuel consumption.

The Distributor is up the front of the motor and it has a vacuum unit of the side, with a plastic hose (small) that goes to the inlet manifold. Mine is an orange colour.

Sometimes the retard unit is in the drivers seat . It is a round disc mounted to the side of the dizzy with a hose attached.

Yeah driving the vehicle to the road conditions was implied, have been and interstate driver for years I absolutely understand the physics of big diesel driving, but applying this to my disco has had no effect. But thanks for the input.

lol Thanks loanrange! My missus would agree with you about the retard in the drivers seat. And I will give that ago, will get back to you. Sadly she has to go back to the mech (warranty) but rest assured the dealer will be glad to see the end of my warranty
