    V8 Carbie Restrictor - FC 101

I understand that the v8 in the series 3 stage 1 is detuned by the installation of a carbi restrictor. I also understand that the perfromance and fuel consumption of the stage 1 is improved by removing the restrictor.

Does anyone know if the restrictor is fitted to the FC 101 and if it is, what improvements or deficiencies can be expected if it is removed.

Or is there no restrictor fitted and the engine is the same spec as a 77 range rover.

    Thanks

One thing I understand about the 101 is that it has a rev limiter fitted in the distributor. If it hasn't already been done, it is worthwhile to replace the dissy with a civilian one.

Don't know about the restrictor but I am sure others will know.

P.S. Is it there yet? Is it there yet?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Diana -

Hmm - a governor - hmmm that will have to go - it still has its 24v system in place and working. It also has a 12v alternator, as well as its 24v alternator, that charges a set of deep cycle batteries to run camping power, the UHF CB and the car radio.

The engine now runs - and very sweet and smoke free it is. The clutch now works so it is able to move under its own power but all the brakes will have to be replaced or reconditioned. Somehow playing around I managed to get the front brakes to stay half on permanently - the cylinders must be frozen but he master seems ok.

No it is not there yet

    G'day Garrycol

The 101's were fitted with restrictors as to keep the speed down when used by squaddies they are similar to what is fitted to Stage1's and 110's, there is/was a distributor rev limiter fitted but I don't know too much about that side of it, particularlaly 24V, BUT I do know that at 100kph on highway on 900x16 Nato Bar Treads, they are REAL TWITCHY they also tend to set up a rocking/osolating motion which takes a little getting used to

    Hope that is of help

    cheers

I don't think there should be any restrictor in a Rangie. What's it look like?

These were OEM sort of a tin plate that hangs down into the manifold, probably more of a air deflector then restrictor but they had to go.

Thanks Uncle Ho - helpful as always. I have to pull the carbies off to fix a small leak in one so I think I will remove the restrictor at the same time. The rev limiter will stay for the moment - priority is to get the car registered and mobile. Tyres will be on the agenda but I don't think the Bar Treads will be on the list. Will be looking at other options including options listed in the 101 section.

The motion is in evidence even parked in the drive - I guess that is why a roll bar is fitted to the front - must have been about the earliest landie to have them fitted.

    Cheers
