    P38 Accumulator Q

If I jump in, start, jab in gear and go - I have limted braking power for under a minute then its perfectly normal. I can 'pump' the pedal as required to solve the initial problem of hitting something.
This seems to occur after the car has been sitting for more than a few hours.

If I start, let it sit while I load in the kids etc, brakes are fine.
Same as if car had been driven recently - less than a few hours.

I've a steep driveway (down) and have only recently started these 'hot' starts (pager) and I'm wondering if there is a significant problem developing in the accumulator or if they're generally like this.

    Thanks,

    Hardy

    Accumulator.

Easy to change, no bleeding even required.

I had the same problem. It can take up to 45 secs to braking power. I hit a few fences and garbage cans when it came on fairly suddenly. One is so used to having braking capacity at start up, it's easy to hop in to move the car a few feet then find you can't stop it.

Get in the car, leave it in Park, release the handbrake, and turn on the ignition. Time how long it takes for the brake light to go out. It should be under 45 secs. If you leave the handbrake on, the light will stay on until the handbrake is released - that's why you need to release it before you start the test.

I've got a light on my dash to tell me when the brake pump is on and also one to tell me when the EAS compressor is running.

    Whats the go here Ron???
I think you have spent too much time in the wee hours talking to septics. And I don't meen the smelly one buried in the back yard either.

Hardy, sorry for the hijack, and yes I agree with The International moderator of the year. It is the Accumulator.
