    EGR Bypass

Are the replacement egr bypass pipes made out of aluminium tube or can i make one out of steel? If steel, would there be any issues regarding the different expansion rates of the material as it heats up during use?

    Cheers, Phill

thats going to depend on how good your gasketing is...

I wouldnt have thought it would make much difference for what it is, worst case scenario is that if it leaks its generally going to let a little bit of fresh air out

I was more concerned with expantion issues possibly cracking the inlet manifold as the engine heats up?? Would'nt think that it would get that hot though would it, it's at the front of the engine and has cool air through it?

    ahh now I get you..

nope that shouldnt be that big a problem, IF your really really worried about oversize the holes in your egr bypass pipe flange and secure it in place with aluminium taper washers under the head of the bolts, This will self center the fitting if you tighten the bolts up in a progressive sequence and give some soft metal to distort should the worst occour. If you dont notice its loose by hand after a week then its all good and you can leave it alone, If its loose then the expansion factor has become a problem and you'll probabley find that if your tighten the bolts to recenter it and then replace the washers one at a time with a flat washer under a spring washer with some loctite on the bolt that that will solve the problem by allowing the flange to expand and contract as needed.

The main reason I dont think it will be a big problem is the simple fact that theres a lot of older ally engines out there that have steel exhaust manifolds.
