The 300tdi water pump is a joke really, THAT PATHETIC little tapered roller bearing at the front sitting in a nylon cage, with bugger all room for grease!!!!, and that bloody great pulley bolted on, and that bloody serpentine belt with a shocking tension pulling directley down on it!!!, Luv the tdi ,but that water pump set up would have to be the worst of any motor, ever built.

If the leak is coming from the front face of the engine where it meets the pump housing, I'd suggest that it's your 'P' gasket which has gone.
It's a fairly easy job to do and should take you approx 2hrs.
For piece of mind, you might want to change the pump at the same time and it'll be worth checking the condition of your Serpentine belt before you order up your parts.

that where my money is (thought I posted a reply yesty) just take care with the 3 long 8mm bolts and also use a paper gasket with a little sealant as the steel ones fail faster then the afore mentioned ones.Quote:

The long bolts which fix the water pump in place are available in galvanized finish from LR bits places.
I found the original bolts had corroded and replacement gave me some peace of mind. I'll try to retrieve the part numbers.

Bolt part number could be FC108247. Part gurus might check.
