    D1 Alpine Window repair

    Hi There.
Can anybody recommend a panel beater or repairer in Sydney that can repair alpine window rust on a D1.

Only a single window is effected, only quote I have had is $500.00 to remove the area and weld in replacement metal (outer only, inner skin would remain without a replacement plate welded in, but rust would be cut out.

This seemed a little high to me, considering that it included leaving the effected area in undercoat, so painting (mix and match) of the paint to the roof colour would be additional Considering that the car is dark grey (more towards black, can't remember the land rover name of the colour), it will be tricky to get the paint 100 percent match without respraying the whole roof.

    Any advice would be welcomed.

$500 Would about be the norm for that kind of work , Just to get a panel painted is normaly around the $300 mark from a respected panel beater

Its not just a matter of cutting out the affected area and welding a plate in there is a fair bit of labour invovled

When I fixed the rust in the alpine windows in my disco (dark blue) I painted the steel around the rubber seal in satin black. This was about 1" around the rubber and was not noticable at all, looked quite factory, no need to colour match.

just had mine done, one window (removed and replaced), across the front of the bonnet (couple of chips, sprayed back to the ridge), inside rear doors (bit of surface rust). All perfectly color matched (metalic blue)
    for the grand sum of
    $300 with tax invoice
    cheers

While any decent panel beater would be able to do the work, I'd suggest giving Caldwells at Condell Park a try.
They've been doing Land Rovers for years & years.

Well, gave Caldwells a call, hey were VERY helpful and a better price too. Looks like I will be heading down to Condell Park soon.

Will post an update when I actually get the work done.

Thanks for all of the info

    Hi Dullbird,

Will do ... if you don't get an update from me in about 2 weeks, just send me a message, the old brain can fog up and overheat, causing memory loss
