If you are in Melb I will have a really good chassis for sale in a couple of months.
Usually its a cut and reweld a new section on.

Depends how bad it is and how good your fabrication skills are. You can fab your own, but a new rear crossmember with outriggers is around $500 IRC. You use the new one as a template to show you where to cut (leaving as much overlap as possible for strength).

mine was rusted at the bottom of the angled outriggers. i cut the rusted section out, which almost went all the way to the top of the outrigger, and fabricated a "U" channel out of square gal tube, welded overlaps to it to slot into the existing chassis and my mate welded it on with the oxy. neither of us any good with a tig welder.
if i can find the photos, i will put them up.

The chassis with the bit cut out

    the waste bit

    the replacement

    welded into place

    ground back

the finished product, both sides have been done but the LHS needed more cut out, you will notice there is no hole for the jack on the LHS
