cyl 1 tdc, compression both valves closed, wound it over with crank handle:eek: to make extra sure. fitted dizzy in direction of oil pump drive, fitted rotor button, made sure rotor button is pointing at No.1 on dizzy cap, direction of rotor is clockwise viewed from the top, standing on the pass side? correct?
thanks for your help guys.
cheers phil
G`day Phil
If you`ve got it running the dissys close enough .
If the rotor is going from 1 in the direction of 8 , the leads`ll be right .
Blowing black smoke will be too much fuel .
Couple of choices .
Disconnect the fuel pump , pull a wire or fuse ect .
Run it till it stops with the fuel pump not working .
If in the final stages it runs cleanly on all cyls , you know where to look .
Because of the cyls not firing even if 6 is , it`s saying the fault is with that carb .
Depending on which type of CDs your has , one option would be the choke sticking on .
Another is the needle jet is sticking or worn or not returning to home .
If it has ever been run on lpg for any length of time it is common for the needles to wear beyond use .
First try running it out of fuel , if it doesn`t run clean , check the choke .
If i won`t run cleanly at higher revs it`s unlikely to be the needles .
If it won`t make higher revs , the choke is more likely or the piston is not lifting . ( run it without the pipe work and look at the piston )
Cheers
rodger that!
it will rev up, also sounds cleaner ie all cylinders firing.
at hi revs should you be able to see the slide move or will it only travel under load?
it probably will be a carby issue! why! because i threw out 4 strommies a month ago! bloody moving house's....
cheers phil.
G`day Phil ,
yep you`ll see it moving .
The needles the bit that meters the amount of fuel and as the engine requires more fuel for higher revs the piston rises , very basic explaination .
You should be able to put your finger or similar in and push the piston up and it should settle at the bottom , with a reasonably steady movement , again basic explaination .
Cheers
Easyest way to tell if the slides are working up and down is to just undoo the caps and give her a rev the caps should rise up with a rev if one dosent rise as quick as the other theres ya sick carby :D:D
ok, an update on this!
it WAS the carbies, one was flooding the cylinders. rebuilt one carby and almost all good! the slide in the other carby was not lined up the right way. rebuilt that one too now all cylinders are firing and the shed isnt filling up with the black haze!
cheers phil
its one i'll rember for next time:D
i never thought ide say wish it was injected:eek:
