Assuming my problem is the Exhaust Manifold Studs failure, is this an expensive fix?
Aye, Mick
Mick, recently went through this myself. Become expensive for me as snapped an easy out in the stud I was trying to remove.
If you manage to get the stud out easily, you only need a new manifold gasket, new stud (couple of $) and more than likely you will need to machine the manifold. I drilled the #1 and #5 cylinder holes in the manifold to a slightly larger size to allow for future movement.
Machining cost me $100, can't tell you the cost of the gasket as I have a firend in the parts industry.
Hope this helps.

I dont remember how much mine cost. But like most things with a disco...not much change from 300-400 bucks!
Cheers

Would an exhaust manifold stud failure account for an increase in exhaust gas temperature? I have an EGT gauge fitted to my TD5 and although I cant be sure, it seems that it is running hotter even though I have nursed it on it's last drive. Any thoughts?
get it checked by some one that knows td5's, & knows what to
look for because these motors can become very expensive!!!!
I found that out last year, good luck
Jeff
UPDATE: Exhaust manifold now machined and fixed plus a general once over and the car is running nice and tight again and very smooth:D Fuel economy seems to be back as well as before I seemed to be chewing through the juice. Also seems the power and torque is there when I have my air con on - before I would notice quite a drop in power with aircon on and the engine would sound loud but really not do anything.
Anyway, happy man now that it i fixed as it seems to have cleared up a few lingering issues.......wonder how long it has been leaking for:eek:
Thanks for the help guys, Mick
Hey Mick G...
Where did you get it fixed and how many oxfords did you have to part with?
Was it a specialist Rover thing? Or can any decent exhaust shop remedy the problem?
Ta.
Micka
Got it fixed at Rick's 4wd in Nerang on the Gold Coast. He is a LR specialist and does all the work on my car.....highly recomend him and his team. As for $, I couldn;t be sure as I had a few other things done while it was there but if I remember, I will look out the invoice tomorrow and let you know.
I suspect it may be specialist job to a point unless an exhaust shop has dealt with the TD5 engine before as I think one of the problem lies in removing the studs which often break as mentioned before in this thread. If it were me, I would seek a LR specialist for everything on my car........ within reason of course. Give Rick a call, he will look after you or there is MR Automotive i think they are called in Brisbane.
