I am in a similar position. Need to change the clutch and flywheel of my 2001 130 td5.
Redback, have you now installed the single mass flywheel?
Tusker I see the point you are making. I am a bit concerned as well.
I don't think we can compare the drivetrain/gearbox of LR's to Toyo's or Nissans.
Any chance to get a first hand LR experience with the single mass flywheel?

I'm Isaias form Chile. I'm having also troubles with the clutch system of a Defender td5. But here there aren't many Land rover Dealers or many specialized mechanics I could go to - at least not near the city where I live. And also there aren't many Td5 in the country, so I can't count on any other experiences.
I recently bought the new clutch parts, but now I'm wondering if I shuould replace also the flywheel, and have also many, many questions about it! The car has driven about 106.000 km.
When do I know that the present flywheel is OK? If it can't be resurfaced, is necessary to do anything else in order to put the new cluth disk on the old flywheel?
Is it adviceable to keep the old flywheel? In how much time should then I expect to have to replace the flywheel anyway?
I would be very gratefull if you could give any advice on this issue!!!
as far as Im aware you cant machine the flywheel but can keep using it so long as its in spec and doesnt require refacing.
best thing to do is buy a rave cd to suit your vehicle from incisor and run with it. ID look the info up but atm my machine with my raves on it is down.
Hi, I developed a noise in my TD5 Disco clutch at somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000kms kms (can,t remember). This occurred mainly when I first depressed the clutch after the vehicle was idle for a while. At about 180,000kms I removed the clutch as we were going on a trip soon after. The clutch and pressure plate were still in very good condition (hardly worn). I took the dual mass flywheel to a Land Rover repairer who advised me that it was still good. I replaced the clutch as I had already bought one and put back the original flywheel. The noise finished up being the spigot bush on the end of the crank, which I replaced. The car is now up to 230,000kms. I haven't had to go near any component in the drive line (although I did replace the front double carden uni with greasable unis as preventative maintenance) From past experience with Land Rovers is unusual get these numbers out of a solid flywheel. Yes, I do tow a lot.

Hi all,
Had a noise like a dry spigot bush in the TD5 some 25-30thou. back , took the box off and all was well with the bush. Turned out to be a dry bearing in the flywheel. It seems to be a close fit between the inner and the outer, I think that is where the noise is being made. It still makes the noise when reversing first thing. I tow a 20 ft van , and have stopped worring about it now. Fingers-xed.

It must be a common problem, mine makes a noise when cold and first using the clutch. it dissapears after a few depressions of the clutch or when the drive train starts to warm up. You can just bearly hear it when the engine has warmed up
I will just have to live with it for the moment
