    Did read somewhere that they varied a lot when new, because the boost could vary anywhere between 12 psi & 16 psi.. out of the factory gates. Dunno how true this is though.

    Another issue is these engines have been out for so long that almost all have been molested to some degree.

    I've found the tappets on my Isuzu have a huge effect on how smooth the engine runs. Obviously diff clearances let diff amounts of air in and produce different size bangs.
