No water in the oil, it hasn't run dry, oil still clean, but there was a lot of heat coming from the engine bay with the bonnet lifted, but can't say it was any hotter than usual. Today was 36 degrees but that shouldn't be a problem. Guessing it's lost about 30% of it's power but it can still get to 60 OK, just slower. I decided it was OK to drive home since there was water, oil and no extra noises and it was only 10 mins away when I noticed it.

It did sound like the fan was "woooshing" more than usual when you rev it, and when driving up the street it did sound like it had a few extra fans blowing air rather than just 1.

Any ideas anyone ?? Who's the best mechanics in Brisbane for TD5's ???

Thanks to Dobbo for pm'ing me on another forum and suggesting I come here. He gave me a link which I read through and it's sounds like the modulator valve. Today's it's running better, but not quite 100 %

    Thanks in advance !!
sounds like a hole in the turbo hose

That's what I love about the LR's !! Where ever you go you've got family !!

Thanks but I have it sorted I think, changing the rubber tubes to the wastegate valve made the biggest difference. I guess even though they felt supple one had a problem ???

    Thanks everyone for you help.

HAd a problem like that 2002 TD5 defender, it was sensor in inlet manifold/turbo housing? and caused it to fault an run with no power sensor was about Nz$140.00 and goes well had this twice, first time landrover NZ who know nothing replaced the whole turbo and other bits yet it probably only needed the sensor!!! it used to have no power and or "miss " like a V8 on 6 cylinders
