I have just acquired a D2 99/00 model, petrol/auto with ACE and traction control and coil suspension
I want to lift and do other mods
Question:
Can I use the 2" spring lift from my D1 in the D2?
(I have soft springs and airbags in the D1 which I want to swap over for rear.)
If I do will I need to get new shocks for the D2? What is a normal package in terms of sizes/brands
Anything I should consider in the process?
Thanks in advance

yes there is many many different options it all dependson what your uses are touring or serious off road or something in between and what will suit one person another will have a negative thing to say.
Do a search and there will be alot to read also I do not think the DI will go into the DII not much swaps over except the cigerrate lighter and light bulbs![]()
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

The only thing that may go over is your rear springs.
The D1 springs have a different lower design where they are ground, the D2 is cut and pig tailed. They will also give about 1/2" different ride height.
The D2 front shocks are eye to eye, D1 is pin to pin
The rear springs are compatible.
The rear D2 shocks are eye to eye, where I think the D1 is eye to pin.
Polyairs should just come across.

Thanks All
Slunnie - I really wanted to take my rear D1 springs and air bags as not get anything if sell with car and airbag great for heavy towing
Not taking shocks - happy to get new ones on D2 if needed
Objective - Want to be pretty capable off road, good on road and tow well. Not sure of max tyre size either - should I target 31 or 33 equivalent size?
Have rear airlock to put in plus will activate CDL.

G'day Keith, If you want it soft and flexy, then I would look at the King Springs for the D2 with some skinny shims in the rear to level it, and if you prefer it a little stiffer for load carrying then I would look at the OME range. Either way, I'd buy a full set of springs rather than mixing and matching new and old. Shocks, personally I'd then use a set of Bilsteins. It's a lot of time and effort to swap out springs to save $1-200. Bring the polyairs over and they'll go into the D2.
Tyre's, with a bullbar you should be able to fit 265/75-16 (32") on 7" or 8" rims or 235/85-16 (32") on 7" rims if you like skinnies.

The shocks in a D1 are eye to pin D2 shocks are all eye to eye
I have Tough Dog suspension in mine and its good a bit rigid for some but I like a stiff setup
It flexes heaps as the swaybars (ACE) disconnects in low range so travel isnt a problem
And you can get a 265/75/16 on the standard rim with no cutting of guards and the like
Some say King Springs others say Lovells I have TDogs
I think the best Springs IMHO are Dobinsons as they will make them to what you request ie height, load rates and so on
And for shocks you cant go past Bilsteins or Tough Dog adjustables
The Tough Dogs have 9 settings from very soft to very hard
If your going for an all round vehicle then I would go the Tough Dogs as they can be adjusted with the flick of the wrist and for rear load when packing the beast for a getaway a set of polyairs to level the rear suspension out and you have pretty much everything sorted![]()
Hi Keith
Dont want to be the bearer of bad news but Im sure Ive read here several times a D1 airlocker is different to the D2.Could be wrong,Im sure the brains trust will either agree/dis-agree.Better to find out before its in bits.
YOU WILL LOVE THE ACE!!!!,Even with a 2" lift you can push real hard around bends.Stuff that would see lesser coil sprung vehicles belly up.
ENJOY THE D2.LOVE MINE!!!!

I fitted S1 Front springs in my 99 TD5 a couple of years ago. They were 2" lift over those fitted on the S2. (Rear already had 2" lift)
No problems fitting springs.
Now due for shockers and will be fitted with Konis to replace OMEs.
