The auto might be the same as the V8 to TDi, same box just different bell housing, input shaft and shift points, some work but as my box needs a rebuild then I have to fork out for it anyway
I was under the impression that although they are the same gearbox, that they are setup differently to suit the shifting needed for the tdi as to the v8. Others may confirm or deny whether this is correct.
    Cheers

I went down this road a few months back and can confirm that shifting parameters for the ZF for the Tdi is completely different to the ZF for V8. They can be used interchangeably and have been by a few people but by all accounts will result in an appalling drive.

I went to the effort of chatting to a man in UK about how the combination went on his conversion. He said that it was tolerable at lower speeds and around town, but on the highway and at top end it was far too "thrashy". Low range use was very thrashy too.

A quick peruse of the shifting speed/rpm data for the two boxes will reveal why. Such as for example, at kickdown throttle position, the 1-2 shift occurs at 5250 rpm. On the Tdi the 1-2 shift at kickdown position occurs at 3500-3800.

Just get in contact with Andrew at LRA (Les Richmond Automotive) as his Rangie is TD5 with D1 auto behind it.

It cant be much different than a rangie I wouldnt think seems eveything under the skin is the same.

I am chasing info/advice on this or if any one has seen this done?

I would prefer to mate the D1 auto to the TD5 as it is non computerised but I am not sure as to weather it will handle to power.

My car is set up how I want it (another factor for not changing) but I crave more power now that I have a bigger trailer (I can't get up Cunninghams Gap at the speed limit anymore).

The TDi was rebuilt 15k ago however the auto needs a rebuild. I was thinking of chipping the TD5 for more power so I would have built the box stronger.
Here ya go, this will pull ya trailer up where ever you want

Andrews could be on a D2 chassis, i see it a couple of times a week as he lives near by but he is usually going to fast to get a good look at it . It would be a very costly conversion, LRA has staff and parts on hand so it would have been easy for them.
