I have a 2000 series 2 TD5. The horn will not operate today yet tomorrow it will. What the heck is going on.

Check your wiring connections to the horn, possibly damaged/corroded or even a bad earth?

Turn off your climate control, wind down, sorry lower your windows electrically and use hand signals.

When that all wears off check your wiring to the horn.

    Do D2's have a cartridge like a P38?

my guess it is the rotary coupling (sometimes called a coil/cassette/whirly thingy)

but its easy to test - but make sure you read the instructions on the disabling the air bag first.

The connections can be tested with a normal test meter on resistance whist in situ
