    replaced fuel filter then purging?

    Hi all,

    just a quick question.

I replaced my fuel filter (110 Td5) but didnt really do the fuel purge as suggested in the manual. what I did do is turn the ignition to ACC for a few minutes and repeated that a few times until the fuel pump stopped making a very grumpy wineing noise. After a while it all seemed ok and then drove for an hour with no probs.

Does this seem ok, or should I be worried about an impending fuel pump catastrophy?

    Cheers
    Jim

i just did my td5 disco and i followed it the way the book said. it was still making the noise on the 6th cycle, once the noise stopped on that last try i did the 100% throttle and it started instantly and has been fine for 500kms since. i really dont think the 100% was at all needed it started and revved instantly, i had to let off the throttle very quickly!

Turning the key to the ACC position wouldn't have done anything. I assume you mean the ON position.

Usually 5 or 6 cycles will do it.

yeah I meant the on position, and by cycles do you mean on/off, on/off etc etc. The fuel pump was making all sorts of wierd and wonderful sounds until it settled down after about 5 mins. I hope its good because I'm driving to Carnarvon on thursday.

    cheers

The noise is just the air being purged. Nothing to worry about.

    Purging new fuel filter

    Hi Jimmy,
My experience in purging the new fuel filter is to leave ignition key in the ON position for one long session i.e. 5-10 minutes, no real drain on the battery if its OK, the buzzing noise which we hear every start quietens down and then kick it over and DO NOT TURN IT OFF, go for a drive to push fuel (and maybe air) through and sweet, easy peasy.
