    Discovery 2 TD5 Chip upgrade

I understand there are about 3 chip re-mappers. Where can I find details of who, where etc. What kw/nm improvement can I expect. Also any comments or recommendations would be great.

I've got a Triumph Rover Spares mapped ECU, no problems, heaps of power/torque when I need it. I sent mine down to them and they uploaded the new maps and sent it back.

TD5's should have the ecu remapped and not a plugin box added - they arent very good on TD5's.

Over here in the UK we can offer about a 20 - 25% increase in torque without an uprated intercooler and with an uprated intercooler we can get +40% without exceeding the engine design limits or affecting engine longevity...

I suspect with your higher ambient temps you won't get quite so much as +40% but it would be interesting to know what TRS give you.

Postal services are safe, quick and reliable - we do many over here like that.
Of course the only down side is you are without a vehicle for a few days.

A word of note for those that dont know... Over here (UK) many companies blather on about massive increases in bhp - several claim around 200bhp...
A TD5 ecu has no concept of bhp, just fuelling rates, end engine limiters, one of which is torque. Any bhp increase is consequential and very subject to testing methods - Its quite easy to make a 150bhp engine read 200bhp on a rolling road. Torque though is black and white in the ECU.

A true and realistic bhp increase will be about 30 - 45 depending on how much extra torque the ecu is allowed to deliver and how the fuelling is re-programmed.
    Regards,
    Jon

    My 2 cents worth....

I researched remapping the ECU a fair bit before committing as I was wary of all the TD5 exhaust manifold warping problems that had occurred in Port Lincoln SA where I was living at the time after the dealers mechanic had sent ECU's off to be remapped. Cold weather and hot manifolds maybe.

With regard to the later flashable ECU's. A lot of organisations use the B. Davis fuel map settings. All each place does is download the new fuel map settings into the EPROM.

Being an electronics technician and electronics engineer into computers for 25years I could not justify paying the $880 for the 20 minutes it takes them to setup and download.

Then when I starting using the site some people had posted about the remap they had done by TombRaider. His mapping is just as good and half the price. I run his mapping along with a couple of simple low cost mods for the TD5 he advised me on that make a huge difference when coupled with it. Also I find with TRT you can ring him up and ask advice in relation to the ECU remap with regard to doing new mods to work with it.

He usually has already tried it out and knows exactly what will work and what is a waste of time/effort and money.

Just do not send it to him Australia post parcel express with a return bag....hey mike
