    Series 2a Steering wheel Change.

    Hi everyone,

I have put saab seats in my series 2a (I Know), which has sat me up higher and I now need to sqeeze my legs under the steering wheel. I am looking at changing the steering wheel to a smaller one, could anyone suggest a wheel or tell me what the spline number is so I can get one to fit.

    Cheers
    Shane

I have seen a 2A wheel modified with a sports wheel bolted to the hub but christ I wouldnt recommend it, I have the same drama to contend with with my Series one, only way I could see out is too have 2 inches taken of the column and have the shaft re splined, its a real safety issue here and the landys really need the big wheel to turn the wheels unless you workout 3 times a day While leg clearence isnt really a concern with mine the stomach to steering clearance is though this is becoming a decreasing problem I still need to look at the modification

The biggest problem with the Steering wheel is the bolt that locks the wheel onto the Spline, not sure if all 2As use this, my old one did, the S3 uses a convention nut atop the shaft to secure the wheel, havent heard of an aftermarket boss kit for them

Thanks, I guess I can live with the leg problem. I have keept all the original parts, so if it becomes too much of a problem I could put it back to original. Does anyone know where I could find a steering wheel cover for it, I think it needs to be a 17" or 43.2 CM I have tried everywhere here in Tassie, even tried to get one made.

This was only used on early IIA's, my 1968 model has a nut - same as SIII.

The early type steering wheel with the bolt was changed over with the introduction of suffix "C" in April 1966.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I fitted a Mountney steering wheel to mine. It is more direct and kick back is more servere. Is a bit harder in the mouth on parking. My wife can handle it though .Mountney steering wheels from Direct Car Parts
