Thread: D1 Impact Sensor ?

Yes there is, I had a similar experience plunging down a sand dune at Stockton beach a few years ago. It is up under the glovebox somewhere I think.

Has happened a few times since. Turn off and restart resets it.

There was a fix for this years ago. there is an inertia switch in the alarm "spider". You have to cut a couple of wires.
I had a fellow club member who had it happen over and over. Used to turn ign off, lock car, walk around it , unlock, then start.
The Microsoft reboot.
I am sure some fellow sufferer here can direct you to the thread. I thought they all would have been fixed years ago. Just goes to show your car had not been off road.

Looks like I was on the right track with my thoughts, thanks for the confirmation. (and yes the blinking sound was comming from under the glove box) I had thought my beastie had seen a reasonable amount of off road prior to my purchase but perhaps not! I am certainily making up for any lack of off road this vehicle may have done. I was quite proud of having the dirtiest car in the car park at work after easter.

I have read about the spider mod required, not sure if mine has been done. I have been putting of venturing to far under or into the dash just yet

I think this has a lot to do with the market and model of the car you have.

On our Middle East spec Disco's the inertia switch will set off the hazard lights if we hit a pot hole etc just like yours. To re-set the thing you have to turn off the ignition and it will cancel the hazards etc...

I also know of people who have hit a much larger bump and the inertia switch has cut out the fuel pump.This is a safety feature in the case of a heavy front end collision to prevent petrol being pumped out.
You then have to pop the bonnet and despress the rubber buttoned re-set device on the engine firewall.

Thats my understanding of the inertia switch.

Thanks Streaky, I knew about the Fuel Pump cut out, this is well written in owners manuals etc. and makes good sense to have. I think you are correct in that being an ES with SRS etc etc this sensor could be related to the SRS components but I can not find any easy to find documentation about it.

Either way, at least now I know it is an easy fix and not a precursor to something more evil lurking in my electrical system.

I bought a brand new D1 in 1998 that occasionaly did that. I thought it was just a loose connection somewhere.

I purchased another 1997 D1 a while ago and that did it as well. Usually whilst driving along really corrugated roads.

If somebody finds a fix, let me know.

The fix is to stop, turn off the ignition and lock the car, and then unlock it again; has happened to me twice now. The spider had already been disconnected on my car,

I think the inertia switch is in the alarm ecu module, rather than the spider. These are two quite separate boxes. However I will be proven wrong if someone without an alarm has this problem.
