    My goodness

    Brian,
Wasn't told about the availability of the alloy 3-53!! Not committed yet to the other motor, the above number is old so will do search.

Any idea what they weigh? and how tall from sump to top? From memory those GMs are pretty tall and might give some cleaance/shutting the bonnet problems.

If you wanted to go GM the 6V53 is only 318 cubes and probably no longer than the 3 cylinder; then it would sound like an APC!

I have heard of one of these 2-3 cylinder 2 stroke GM motors out of a small dozer in a Land Cruiser that was seen (and heard) across the Simpson. I am told it sounded incredible and pulled like a 14 year old.

Unless you fell over one I think it would cost a fortune to do.

Sent you an e-mail last night. Didn't you get it? My e-mail has been playing up, some are not being received either end.

    3-53 In Simpson

    Yes,
I led that trip and had the honour of towing him from East of Purni Bore to The Alice! It's a long story....and tow.

By the way I have contacted Brett and for about $3,500 if available you can get a 3cly 2cycle!! He is unsure about the performance figures though. Hasn't heard of an alloy 3-v53.

    Regards,
    PeterW

6V53 is too bulky, too heavy.

This is from a 1978 spec sheet for a fan to flywheel generic 3-53T.

    131bhp @ 2500 rpm, 312 lb ft @ 1600 rpm

height 40", width 29", length 33". flywheel SAE No.3, flywheel housing SAE No.3. Weight 454 kg. This is for an iron block engine, in T spec, not TA or TABB, and appears to be fully equipped with 12v. starter, generator, water pump and oil cooler/heat exchanger, fuel filters, and fan.

My source said they have (or had) alum. block, iron head engines as previously posted, ex US military snow tractors with radiator, clutch, and 4 speed trans.

I will contact and ask if he meant someone or something else.
