D2 shakes when braking gently downhill and turning

not always, but probably 30% of the time when i'm coasting down hill and use the brakes to maintain speed, while turning, the car gets a horrible shake thru the steering wheel and i can feel the car actually shimmying about. not a nice feeling. does anyone know some common areas i should look at to suss it out?

the stering generally is ok, perhaps a little loose and wandery on the road, but not bad at all. its more of a worry to me since its so inconsistent. one moment the car feels as tight as new, the next it feels all sloppy and wandery. any help would be great. thanks.

Could be a number of things if it was mine I'd get it checked out quickly.

Look at brake pad wear, a slightly bent steering arm, a buggered suspension bush, a dodgy suspension dampner, dodgy tyre weight etc......

    ACE problem?

Easier and quicker to get it checked out.

Could be warped discs, wheel bearings or a crook CV, worth getting to a repair shop ASAP.

Also while your at it check out the uni joint on the stearing arm and the clamp, could be very loose.

I had similar problems on my '99 Td5 in that the steering was vague and there was occasional brake shimmy.

It all went away when I replaced out of round Coopers with some round tyres.

i would definitly get the front steering and suspension checked.
What is the tyre wear like on the front? May be worth checking toe as well.

    Regards,

    Dave
