tailshaft uni's
Guys,
does anyone know if there was a difference in size between the tailshaft uni's on the earlier series 1 disco and the older series 1 disco with the rubber donut?
Ive got a 97 disco and I had the original tailshaft with the rubber donut and 3 bolt flange, changed to a older style tailshaft with the uni and 4 bolt flange. I am currently trying to replace one of the uni's as it is worn, but the replacement uni that bursons sell seems to be the wrong size to the one i have taken off my tailshaft (the one bursons sell for all disco models is too large.)
Is it possible that the tailshaft i have is off a defender or rangie? were they different than the disco?
cheers

It's more to do with time and engine rather than disco/rangie. Miss Dullbird had the same problem in reverse - I sourced a propshaft to replace her donut, but although the donor vehicle was of a similar age to your disco, the previous owner had used an older prop. When it came time to find new uni's, she had to find the bigger version.
Cross referencing EPC and the GKN catalog, it appears you need the standard TVN100000 uni ( That's the current LR Part number for it now, used to be RTC 4587/3458) - 23.8 dia and 61.3mm long. This is the uni I use on my 95 disco and it apparently is used on later Disco 1 and 2's. GKN say that the Hardy Spicer part number is 1140 HD, the GKN number is U049 or 11748(U/C number). What your auto outlet is trying to give you is for older vehicles, RTC 3346 (1985 ish) GKN U100, 27mm in dia and 81.7mm long.
Of course I could be wrong...
