also re the td5 fuel line and bursting... isnt the td5 fuel pump in the tank therefore the td5 fuel lines would be under much greater pressure than a tdi???

not sure how relevant it is but I have half worn tdi fuel lines through were touching each other, found it on inspection and just wrapped some hose around at the point of contact and a cable tie??? no leaks no problems.

Thanks to all. Now that it has once again been confirmed that im nuts, my wife has been of that opinion seen I brought the Defender. I will leave the lines as is.

Seems the problem is not so much the pipe material, but that they could be susceptible to rubbing through if against a sharp edge etc.

I would not replace the pipes with a different material throughout, but I would say have a really close look for potential friction points and protect these areas with a rubber sheath around the original pipe.
That's an LRA recall issue. Have you taken it to a dealer?
Can't recall the details, but a search on here should find it.
LRA will do the fix / recall at no cost.
They won't reimburse you if it's not done at a dealers, (even if you provide the chaffed/holed fuel lines, receipts and stat. dec. from the mechanic), as I found out after losing 3/4 of a tank in diesel and taking it to the local non dealer LR w'shop, which was just around the corner.

Good move, there are enough things that you will "have" to change/repair/adjust, without looking for unnecessary ones
