SubscriberI was talking to the Sydney Filter Services guy (Neil) when I bought some Mann oil filters for my RRC.
He told me about a new Mann product that the Jeep Diesel guys are all excited about, which is an oil separator that works.
I haven't seen it mentioned on the forum, so I thought I would help out you diesel guys.
He said that he would send me a PDF on it which I attach.

When I bought my Mann filters about 3 months ago I asked for literature on the provent. I wanted one for my old Disco but I sold it
Its a very good design, you can direct the seperated oil back into the sump, into a catch can, or dumped to the ground (naughty naughty). Would def. help keep the i/c clean
It is indeed a great product. AND - some of the R&D for it was/is done in Australia.
I have a heap of these in my lab, unfortunately not for sale. However, if there is enough interest I may be able to arrange a deal for anyone interested.
They definitely don't skimp on the product, the filter media used is the most expensive filter media weight for weight in the world.

All that tech jargon means nothing to me really.
In simple terms, does it increase engine longevity? Or just keep the intercooler clean (mine is filthy)
It does a number of things:
Keeps intercooler cleaner
Prolongs turbocharger life (collected soot/ash from oil mist kills turbos)
keeps oil in your sump where it is needed, so should (slightly) reduce oil consumption.
ALL big diesels are fitted with these systems - since they are designed to last a long time, and they don't want the turbo (and or engine) dying a premature death from soot/ash being deposited in the turbo.

About time a real stand alone seperator arrived.
they are not cheap to purchase, defence did a looksee at them and some other similar items and decided that the projected increase in engine life was not sufficient to warrent the installation primarily because they expect something else to kill the engine first....
What would be interesting to see is how it copes with massive over pressure by say a failed ring that usualy causes enough oil spray to lead to a run away diesel...
If it can stop that much oil for a prolonged preiod then Id fit one in a shot.
